    Ingredients

    1/2 lb ground beef chuck
    1/4 cup milk
    1/4 cup cream
1/2 cup fresh or defrosted peas
    1 carrot
    3/4 lb gold potatoes
    1 onion
    1 cup tomato puree
    2 tsp garam masala
    1 tsp fenugreek
    1 tsp turmeric
    1/2 tsp cumin
    1/2 tsp coriander

    Equipment

    Preparation

Fill a stockpot with water and place on high heat to boil the potatoes.

    Dice the onion.

    Dice the carrot.
Coat the bottom of a skillet with olive oil and place on medium heat. Once the oil is hot add the garam masala, fenugreek, turmeric, cumin, and coriander. Toast the spices for 2 minutes.
Add the onions and carrots to the pan and cook until the onions have changed from opaque to translucent and have softened.
By now, the water should be boiling. Add the potatoes to the boiling water and cook for 20 minutes.
Once the onions are soft, add the ground beef and sauté until the beef has browned.
Add the pureed tomatoes, peas, 1/4 tsp of salt, 1 cup of water, and cook for 15 minutes.

    Turn the broiler on.

While the beef cooks, mash the potatoes.

Place the boiled potatoes in a bowl. Mash with a potato masher or the back of a fork. Add the milk, cream, and 1/4 tsp of salt to the potatoes and mix until creamy.

Transfer the curried beef to a baking pan.

Cover the curried beef with the creamy potatoes.

Transfer the pan to the upper rack of the oven and broil until a golden crust forms, approx. 4 minutes.

    Serve warm.

This dish is incredibly delicious. My husband and I had a lovely dinner at home, in addition to two lunch servings for me to enjoy at work. My coworkers complimented how delicious it smelled. All ingredients arrived fresh and ready to prepare.

They curry in this dish made it a real people pleaser. There was also plenty for leftovers the next day which was a bonus.

I had never made a shepherd’s pie before, but this was so easy and came together so nicely that I’m confident I could do it again on my own even :) The curry flavor is what intrigued me and it was there but light. I will probably add more next time because we are serious curry lovers in my house.

I’m British and this was amazing! The curry flavour isn’t too strong so it doesn’t feel like you’re eating a curry. The potatoes are really creamy and compliment the meat wonderfully!

It’s so easy, you don’t even have to peel the potatoes!
